Just because it's real doesn't mean it has to be boring. In this workshop we'll explore how to bring depth, truth, and emotional honesty to your improv scenes without sacrificing playfulness or energy.
You will practice how to listen harder, how to react more truthfully, and how to build scenes that matter to not only the characters in them, but the audience as well. You'll see how the scene truly thrives on strong character choices and deep relationships between the characters. We won't lean on wacky premises here, but will strive to find the comedy in what is true and relatable.

Sunday, July 13th, 12:00PM - 2:30PM

Bio:
James Dugan was born and raised in Northern California, but moved to Chicago to pursue improv comedy and to learn what this "winter" thing is that everyone has been talking about. In his years in Chicago, he has performed with numerous Harold Teams at iO, taken to the high seas with The Second City, and was a member of TJ and Dave's Mission Theater ensemble. Outside of Chicago he has been featured at festivals in Austin, St. Louis, New York, and Juneau, Alaska. Currently, he is an instructor at iO Chicago and can be seen performing in Armando, Whirled News Tonight, Clued In, and Hitchcocktails.
Testimonials:
James' workshop combined BCC's love for eccentric characters with a grounded approach producing in-class scenes that were real and hilarious.
