F*ck It & Love It

Philip Markle

Saturday, July 8

11:00 AM - 1:30 PM

This workshops teaches you to say both FUCK IT and LOVE IT while improvising. FUCK IT means you don’t worry about the outcome or result of your efforts. LOVE IT means you celebrate the whimsy, joy, and delight inherent in making shit up onstage. You remember why you fell in love with improv, one of the most wonderful feelings in the world. Learn to hold both of these ideas in your head at the same time and create fearless, fun, and dumb improv.

This workshop is perfect for students new to BCC’s approach to improv.

Intro to Musical Improv

Adrian Frimpong

Saturday, July 8

5:00 - 7:30 PM

You already know how to improvise, but to music? YES YOU CAN! This class will introduce improvisers with at least 1 level of experience how to create fully formed narrative musicals on the spot. We will begin each class with various rhythmic, rhyming, and listening, exercises, then delve deep into each element of narrative structure. Students will learn how to create strong protagonists, antagonists, charm scenes, and finales, while building a toolbox of musical techniques including fugues, rap battles, and of course classic chorus-verse structures. Strong singing voices are not required! Just a willingness to unleash your inner diva in a joyful and supportive atmosphere.

Short-Form Games

Taylor Gonzalez

Sunday, July 9

11:00 AM - 1:30 PM

In this workshop, we'll learn, dissect, play, and practice a long list of fun and challenging shortform games—including scene-based games, guessing games, physical games, audience participation games, and everything in between. Shortform style (think Whose Line Is It Anyway?) requires a direct link between you and your audience, cultivating a surprisingly accessible and explosively fun, live experience. Mastery of these games not only enhances your chops as a longform improviser but also emphasizes specialty skills such as crowd control, hosting shows, character work, time management, commitment, and outside-the-box thinking. Plus, they're fun as hell!

Make Yourself Laugh

Ladies Who Ranch

You will learn how to invest in your own sense of humor, hone in on specifics and idiosyncrasies, and how to approach improv as a form of play. Be ready to go silly mode, and cure the common cold.
