How Do I Get INVOLVED?

Most of the shows at the BCC are submission based as we find the competitive nature of holding too many auditions antithetical to the core BCC ethos. We want people to organically find their people: the ones they love to create with, practice with, and then submit to the BCC for consideration. We believe this approach empowers members of the BCC Community to make meaningful connections and, ultimately, produces better comedy.

Our weekly shows Demon Time and What Makes You Laugh feature seasoned BCC Performers and are cast at the discretion of The Artistic Director and Associate Director. In general, we add cast members a few times a year to those shows. Casting is done by inviting performers recommended to us by members of our community (teachers, staff, hosts at the jams, and our Artistic/Associate Director) to guest on those shows and seeing if they’re a good fit with the cast, both from a performance and interpersonal standpoint. We consider people to guest on WMYL based on seeing them perform around the theater and by gathering suggestions from the BCC Staff and Community.

We also invite outstanding existing teams to audition to play on Home Teams, our weekly improv show on Tuesdays before the jam. Home Teams is both an opportunity to showcase more experienced improv teams and to provide a platform for more up-and-coming teams to get reps in. Shows are booked for Home Teams via invite-only auditions cast by Artistic Director Philip Markle, Associate Director Maya Sharma, and Producer Marissa Moorhead.

We also hold yearly open auditions for our Mainstage Residency, which features a cast of 8 performers creating an original sketch revue through improvisation for a multiple-month run at the theater.

There’s free community events every week at BCC, from open mics to improv jams to mixers and mics.

Other performance opportunities include Babes, our submission-based weekly student/grad improv team show designed to help you get in reps, and opening for WMYL, a spot that’s reserved for newer improv teams.

We invite you to submit your show for consideration to BCC, or if you have an improv team that wants to open for our house shows:
