From the Inside Out (Building Characters from Personal Truth)

Step onto the stage as yourself and discover that everything you need to create bold, honest, and unforgettable characters is already within you. From the Inside Out is a beginner friendly, 3 hour workshop that helps you build characters rooted in your own truth, transforming what’s real and felt into what’s rich and alive onstage.

Through playful, on your feet exercises, you’ll learn to listen inward, follow your instincts, and shape authentic emotion and physicality into expressive, dynamic characters. This is a space of curiosity, openness, and courage: where your genuine self becomes the spark for creative transformation.

You’ll leave the workshop with:

• Characters that grow organically from your own experiences and imagination

• Tools to tap into your inner truth and bring it to life with freedom and flow

• Greater confidence performing authentically—on stage, as you are

Teacher: Stevie Shale

Bio:

Stevie Shale (she/her) is an actor, writer, improviser, and solo character performer. She has trained and performed with UCB LA, The Second City, iO Theater, Annoyance Theater, and most recently, The Groundlings. Her work has been featured across the country-from New York to Los Angeles and everywhere in between, including Green Mill’s Paper Machete.

She recently wrapped a run of her solo show HorseGirl at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, at iO Theater in Chicago, and is thrilled to bring it to BCC this Fall! Stevie has a deep love for bold characters, weird worlds, and comedy with heart and she’s passionate about helping students tap into their unique comedic voices through character work that’s both playful and personal.
