Drop-In: Intro to BCC Improv with Artistic Director, Philip Markle (Monday, November 10th, 2025)
Each class is limited to 16 students.
This Intro class teaches you what the BCC’s approach to improv is all about - how to say both FUCK IT and LOVE IT while performing. FUCK IT means you don’t worry about the outcome or result of your efforts. You are not judging whether you perform things correctly or whether you make mistakes. You are simply committed to doing what you are doing without worrying whether it is good or not. LOVE IT means you celebrate the whimsy, joy, and delight inherent in making shit up onstage. You remember why you fell in love with improv, one of the most wonderful feelings in the world. Learn to hold both of these ideas in your head at the same time and create fearless, fun, and dumb improv.
If you are new to improv, this workshop will set you up for a fearless way to begin learning. If you are an experienced improviser, this workshop will introduce you to a new philosophy of improv that is different than other improv schools in NYC. Either way you will be challenged and motivated!
This class is designed for students new to BCC’s approach to improv.
Drop-in Classes: Monday, November 10th, 7:00p - 9:30p
Where: The BCC Pig Pen, Studio B (130 Graham Ave, Brooklyn)
Testimonials:
“Took Philip Markle's workshop -- the guy is visionary. He brings some pretty irreverent but highly engaging improv attitudes that sometimes buck the improv orthodoxy. “
“Philip is a fantastic teacher who has an amazing way of phrasing feedback so that it resonates with you right away. He is also so skilled at pushing students to try new things and giving applicable tasks that drive the feedback into your brain and help you really unlock your best self and get out of your head.”
“Philip brings the passion and energy to take you by the collar and shake the improv out of you. Players who are often timid were leaping on stage in a frenzy. All the while we hit the marks for a good understanding of improv.”
“Phillip is an amazing teacher. He's certain of himself and the material and was able to convey that certainty in his craft so well to the class. I was worried about taking this class, how I would respond to the challenges, but his knowledge and honesty (not sugar coating critiques) were crucial in helping me grow as a performer.”
“Philip did a great job of getting to know each of our improv styles personally. He is so fun and has such a joy about improv that it feels easy to enjoy myself in class. He is insanely intelligent and talented and I always felt like I was learning a new skill. I was never not having fun, I always looked forward to class!”
“Philip knows so much about improv and was able to impart a wide variety of different ways to think and perform in a clear and digestible way.”
