Have you seen the same improv scene 100 times? A couple bickering, school rivals, HR meetings, etc. They can be funny, but they have been performed over and over again, and at a certain point it feels like we’re doing an impression of improv we’ve already seen. 

In this workshop we’ll focus on creating unique, dynamic scenes by pushing past the immediate conflict we often cling to. So many scenes with great potential are bogged down by performers negotiating every single detail with each other instead of just agreeing and pushing forward. 

We’ll work on using radical agreement to stop trying to “win the scene” and instead drive scenes bravely into the unknown. If we can surprise ourselves, we will surely surprise the audience, and our shows will be more successful as a result. Everyone knows “Yes And” but in this workshop we’re actually going to practice that. 

Prerequisite: Completion of Level 1 Improv at BCC or any major comedy theater.

Bio:

Tony Ferraro is a Brooklyn-based improviser, actor, and writer. Originally from Long Island, he started performing improv 10 years ago at The University of Maryland, and has since studied/performed at Brooklyn Comedy Collective, UCB, and Philly Improv Theater.

You can see him performing on Harold Night every Tuesday at UCB with his team “Your Girlfriend”, or Saturdays at BCC with “What Makes You Laugh”. He also performs regularly with his indie teams Granny Fully Loaded and Full of Bones. Collectively his credits include SF Sketchfest, The New York Comedy Festival, iO Fest, and headlining the Fun & Dumb festival. 

His other interests include the Knicks, Mets, and being Italian :)
