Creating Solo Shows w/ Philip Markle (Oct-Dec)

Class limited to 9 Students.

The most powerful thing you have to say onstage comes from your own life experiences. What can you say, from your point of view, that no one else could express like you do? This class will mine your true-life stories to create a narrative solo show that represents your voice onstage. Over the course of six weeks, students will learn to use all the tools and talents at their disposal to bring to life a thematically-driven, one-person show. Each class students will collaboratively workshop material as a group, along with intense, personal feedback on honing your voice. Philip has written many solo shows including his one-man musical Sparkle Hour which has played all over the country, including to rave reviews in the NY international Fringe Festival.

Prerequisite: Prior Level 1 Improv class at BCC or major comedy theater or prior Storytelling class.

6-Week Class: Sundays @ 2:30-5:30 PM, Oct 27 - Dec 8 (no class Dec 1)

@ Patchworks Theater (98 Moore St, Brooklyn)

Class Show: Sunday, Dec. 15 @ 8:30 PM at Cantina Royale

Teacher: Philip Markle

“Philip brings the passion and energy to take you by the collar and shake the improv out of you. Players who are often timid were leaping on stage in a frenzy.”

“Phillip is an amazing teacher. He's certain of himself and the material and was able to convey that certainty in his craft so well to the class. I was worried about taking this class, how I would respond to the challenges, but his knowledge and honesty (not sugar coating critiques) were crucial in helping me grow as a performer.”

“Philip knows so much and was able to impart a wide variety of different ways to think and perform in a clear and digestible way.”
