Musical Improv Intensive: Finding The Fun and The Form

Class Sold out - email for wait list.

NOTE: Class limited to 8 total participants.

This six-hour intensive taught by BCC Artistic Director and musical improviser Philip Markle (Baby Wants Candy, BLANK: The Musical, Happy Karaoke Fun Time!) will teach students the building blocks of what makes compelling musical improv. Students will learn how to create fully improvised songs on the spot that feature memorable choruses and rich verses with distinct melodies & lyrics. We will explore how to frame satisfying one-act musical narratives and hone the components that go into turning musical improv into a professional theatrical experience (one that doesn't look sloppy). After we've worked on all that technique, we will focus in in the second half on how to get out of our heads - to play with abandonment, let go of doing it "correctly," and play from our gut, surprising yourself and your audience.

This workshop is open to students who completed at least one improv class from a major comedy theater (BCC, UCB, PIT, Magnet, etc). This intensive is geared for all levels of musical improv - with the workshop beginning with the basics and ending in advanced techniques/personal notes for all students attending.
